We are down to a shortlist of applicants for the $1 per week rental of this cute early 1900s’s cottage on our farm which will soon undergo a facelift.

But before we move them in, we are waiting for a decision from Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett as to whether the Levendale Primary school will remain open.

He will act on advice from the Education Department as to what is “best educationally” for children in such a small school.

Despite any education spin they put on the issue we, as parents of children at a small school, are extremely happy with the results and will be devastated and divorced from the community should it close.

For 107 years, Levendale has fostered community values in children and a solid base for learning in life.

Today, our kids are experiencing the same education and are well balanced, happy, free-spirited children due to the family environment at the school.

While numbers will be low for a year, we have a good number of under-threes coming on in the district and hope to move in more.

Plans are also in place to revive the district from the grass roots up — with a Farmer’s Market planned at the Levendale Hall soon, so watch this space for more information. If the Education Department agree we would really love a School Open Day so people can see first hand the idyllic setting.

Once we know the future of the school, we will feel comfortable moving families into this beautiful part of the world where life is rich for raising kids. But for now, it’s like sitting, waiting to be shot … or not.

· Aquaponics that Levendale Primary students would develop
· Networking with Orford Primary and Oatlands District High School
· Co op farming
· Child care facilities
· Small business directory
· Utilising the educational program through the Woodsdale Museum
· Employment
· Grant assistance
